Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman and Chairman of PCB’s Executive Committee Najam Sethi said that the PSL 2017 Final will be played in Lahore. Talking to local media at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, he said that Pakistan Cricket Board is making its full efforts for the return of International Cricket to Pakistan. PSL 2017 final arranged in Lahore may be of great help in this regard. So our focus is on this event. We are making efforts and we are hopeful that we will succeed in order to arrange PSL 2017 final at Gaddafi Stadium. We are in talks to different International Players and we are trying to convince them so that they come to Pakistan next year for PSL 2017 final.
Sethi further said that there will be a total of 10 International Player in two teams that will qualify for the final. We are going to amend contract papers in order to gain the consent of all International Player, so that the ten players of the two teams who qualify for the PSL 2017 final would be available. Najam Sethi also said that Pakistan Cricket Board will pay extra money to those player for their visit to Pakistan and most of the players have already given their consent.
He said that the security of Pakistan is much better as compared to past and we are hopeful that we will achieve our goal. Remember Pakistan Cricket Board had successfully arranged Zimbabwe’s tour to Pakistan in May 2015. It was quite a successful tour and PCB provided Presidential level security to Zimbabwe team. Najam Sethi said that a video documentary of Zimbabwe’s tour was presented to International Cricket Council and to Scotland Yard. He further said that the players visiting to Pakistan will stay at National Cricket Academy so that their transport problems may be solved.
He said that the PCB has purchased four bulletproof buses as part of its efforts to provide the best possible security to International Players visiting the country. This proposal was first given by former Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Mr. Zaka Ashraf in 2012. But due to change in leadership of PCB this was delayed.
Remember an attack on Sri Lankan Cricket team bus near Gaddafi Stadium Lahore in March 2009, resulted in 5 Injuries to Sri Lankan Cricketers and killing six policemen and 2 civilians. Since then, Pakistani Spectators are deprived of International Cricket to take place Pakistan.
Since 2009, only Zimbabwe toured Pakistan last year, as Pakistan Cricket team is playing all of their home series in United Arab Emirates. Accommodation in United Arab Emirates is very costly which resulted in extra financial burden on PCB. Sethi said that the bulletproof buses purchased by PCB is an effort to convince International teams to come to Pakistan. We will provide the best possible security to all the International teams willing to visit Pakistan. Sethi said that PCB has a full support from Pakistani government in this regard. We are making serious efforts and are hopeful for International Cricket’s revival to Pakistan.
