England v Pakistan | 1st Investec Test, Day 2
Yasir five puts Pakistan ahead on the second day of Lord’s test against England as he took 5 for 64. Although Mohammad Amir was the center of attraction and was in news for last many days in English media, but the best leg spinner in the world managed to take a position on Lord’s board of honor. He is now the only leg spinner in last 20 years to take five wickets at Lord’s. The previous one was Mushtaq Ahmad, the former leg spinner and now the bowling consultant of Pakistan cricket team. England scored 253 for the loss of 7 wickets at the close of play on day 2 of Lord’s test. Earlier England started the day by picking up 4 Pakistani wickets in first hour of play. Sarfraz Ahmad scored a quick fire 25 of 34 balls before he was dismissed to Vince of Woakes. After that the wickets started tumbling. Pakistan lost the captain Misbah ul Haq at a total of 316. Misbah scored 114 runs of 199 balls with 18 fours. At last wicket, Yasir Shah provided a good stand along with Mohammad Amir. They both scored 23 valuable runs as Pakistan were bowled out for 339 in 99.2 overs. Woakes took a career best of 6 for 70 in 25 overs for England. Broad took 3 for 71 in 27.2 overs.
England in their innings came to bat with a positive frame of mind. But Hales fell to Rahat Ali when there were only 8 runs on the board. Root came to crease and he along with Alister Cook played shots all over the ground and scored at a rate of over 6 an over till lunch. Alister Cook was droped for 22 by Mohammad Hafeez on the bowling of Mohammad Amir. It proved to be a costly miss and Cook managed to score 81 of 124 balls with 12 fours before Mohammad Amir bowled him out. Yasir Shah on the other end bowled brilliantly causing problems for English batsmen. He gave Pakistan a break through at the score of 118, when he dismissed Root for 48. Root scored 7 boundaries in his innings. After that no English batsman could stay on the wicket and wickets kept on falling over the period of time. England lost 5 wickets for just 173 runs on the board but managed to close the day at the score of 253 for the loss of 7 wickets.
Yasir Shah was the hero for Pakistan who took 5 for 70. Mohammd Amir took 1 for 65 in his 18 overs. Two catches were dropped on the bowling of Amir by Mohammad Hafeez and Sarfraz Ahmad. Rahat Ali took 1 for 68 in 14 overs with Wahab Riaz remain wicket less.
It was an absorbing day of test cricket. Although the match seems to be evenly poised at the moment but one can say that Pakistan has a slight edge over England. The first session of day 3 would be an interesting and would be important for both the teams.
